Actress Payal Ghosh had recently alleged that filmmaker Anurag Kashyap tried to sexually harass her. Later, she also filed an FIR against him. While revealing about her ordeal, Payal also named three other actresses-Richa Chadha, Huma Qureshi and Mahie Gill. Richa Chadha went on to file a defamation case against Payal. Richa in her suit had demanded Payal to issue an apology. Payal had tweeted she won’t be apologizing to Richa.
In an interview with SpotboyE, when Payal was asked why she said she won’t apologise, she said she doesn’t feel she had defamed Richa.
But now Payal has agreed to apologise to Richa. When asked why she has agreed, to which Payal said, “When the case went to the court, the judge suggested going for an amicable settlement. Then my lawyer said ok fine Richa Chadha is not my objective. She just jumped into it. I don’t know what? Rather than asking Anurag Kashyap why he took her name she went on filing the case against me. How does she know that he has not taken her name to me? But being a woman I understand her state. Her lawyer discussed with my lawyer that she is being harassed on social media. Trolls are talking bad about her. They are talking bad about me also because I came out in open to talk about all this. And it makes me feel bad that aise kaise bol rahe hain ye log? So I am sure she must be in the same situation. That’s why I said ok let’s go for a courtesy apology because that may make her feel better. Kisi Ko sorry bolne se koi chota nahi ho jata hai. But on the other hand, I am seeing that she has started showing this amicable settlement as her victory.”
Payal added, “Where is the victory? If it’s a settlement it is a settlement. And if for her dignity if I am saying sorry that doesn’t mean I am giving a statement now that Anurag Kashyap didn’t say her name to me. Anurag has very much said this to me. But my using her or anyone names has caused any kind of a pain to them than for that I am saying sorry. But that doesn’t mean it’s her or anyone’s victory.” Payal said that the verdict is on October 12, and Richa has already started saying she has won.
She continued, “Being a woman I was trying to understand her feelings and ready to say sorry considering if this makes her feel good than I have no problem but she is using my decision of apology differently. What kind of mentality is this? I have thought about her respect and dignity but in return, she has started defaming me and humiliating me by saying that I have won and Bombay High Court has done justice. What justice it’s an amicable settlement. And if you want a victory you fight for it for more 5-10 years and win. This one-day settlement doesn’t call winning. There are a lot many people in the Bollywood industry with fewer brains who don’t have the intelligence to understand what is true and what is false.”
