‘Masakali 2.0’ featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Tara Sutaria landed into a huge controversy for its recreation. Music was composed by Tanishk Bagchi and sung by Tulsi Kumar and Sachet Tandon. The original ‘Masakali’ song was sung by Mohit Chauhan with lyrics by Prasoon Joshi and AR Rahman, the composer. It received a lot of flak from netizens and even Rahman was not impressed with his songs being re-created. ‘Delhi-6’ director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Prasoon Joshi, also expressed their disappointment on the recreated version.

We recently spoke to Tanishk and asked him how this controversy affected him and how he coped up with the entire situation. Tanishk considers AR Rahman as his inspiration and his target is to establish himself as a music director like Rahman.

On the controversy, he said, “‘Muqabla’ was his (AR Rahman) song and that song worked and ‘Humma Humma’ was my first recreation and that too worked. So, some might not work and some songs work, so I take hope from the songs that have worked. Rahman Sir appreciated by first recreation ‘Humma Humma’ and I was very happy that I have achieved atleast something. Doing his song and bringing it back again is a big thing for me as a newcomer. Who gives such responsibility to anyone? No one does. But he gave me that responsibility on my shoulders and I fulfilled it. So, that gives me a lot of energy. Maybe in ‘Masakali 2.0’, I haven’t done justice to it and may be there is something that didn’t work. It’s a learning period. I am not a pandit and it’s a school for me and I’m learning every day. Next time I will not do anything which will be same like this. I will do something which will work.”

Tanishk is someone who learns from his mistakes and he makes sure not to repeat that again. He said, “Mistakes that I have created in the past are the hit content and they have taught me what I should do and what not. So, I keep on learning. When I know it doesn’t work, I will not do something like that again. It’s a gradual change that I go through and definitely what I follow is the mass. I try to understand what they are biding to and I take that zone and start making songs according to that. And also, I make a song thinking of one year ahead because by the time the film comes, it becomes a year. I keep that in mind. I try and think out of the box that would last.”
